Care & Instruction

This guide provides essential information on the safe handling, cleaning, and maintenance of your new chandelier. Proper care will help preserve its beauty and brilliance for years to come.

Safety First: Before You Begin

ALWAYS turn off the power to the chandelier at the circuit breaker and at the wall switch before performing any cleaning, maintenance, or bulb replacement. Never clean a chandelier with the power on.

1. Regular Dusting

For routine maintenance, a light dusting every few weeks is recommended.

  • Use a long-handled feather duster, microfiber duster, or a soft, dry cloth.

  • Gently dust the entire fixture, including the frame, arms, and crystals.

  • Do not spray any cleaners directly onto the chandelier.

2. Deep Cleaning

For a more thorough cleaning, perform a deep clean every six months to a year.

Cleaning Crystals In-Place

  • Place a soft towel or drop cloth beneath the chandelier to protect the floor and catch any drips.
  • Wear soft cotton gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints.
  • Mix a solution of one part isopropyl alcohol to three parts distilled water in a spray bottle. Do not use ammonia-based glass cleaners, as they can damage the metal finish and wire coatings.
  • Lightly mist a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth with the solution.
  • Wipe each crystal one by one. Use a second, dry cloth to immediately dry the crystal to prevent spotting.

Cleaning Detached Crystals

  • If your chandelier has detachable crystals, remove them one at a time. Take a photograph of the chandelier first to remember the placement.
  • Submerge the crystals in a bowl of warm water with a small amount of mild dish soap.
  • Gently swish them around.
  • Rinse the crystals thoroughly with clean, warm water and lay them on a soft towel to air dry. Do not polish or dry them with a cloth, as this can leave lint.

3. Bulb Replacement

  • Ensure the power is completely off at the circuit breaker.
  • Allow bulbs to cool completely before touching them.
  • Use a soft cloth or a special bulb glove to handle the new bulb. Oils from your hands can shorten the bulb's lifespan.
  • Screw the new bulb in gently until it is snug. Do not overtighten.

4. Troubleshooting Common Issues

  • Flickering Lights: This could be a loose bulb or a problem with the wiring. Tighten the bulb first. If the problem persists, consult a licensed electrician.

  • Loose Connections: If the chain or canopy seems loose, do not attempt to fix it yourself. Contact a professional for adjustments.

5. Professional Care

For complex or very large chandeliers, or for any cleaning or repair that you are not comfortable with, it is highly recommended to hire a licensed and insured professional. These specialists have the proper tools and expertise to handle your valuable fixture.
